Meet Ash Redfern: Osteoporosis Nurse Specialist.

Ash is an experienced Osteoporosis Nurse Specialist. As founder of Ossavia Bone Health he has a desire to provide a more personalised approach to healthcare.

His nursing career spans 17 years, including more than 10 years working in cancer care and oncology. This extensive clinical experience has given him a strong foundation in assessing complex health needs, understanding the impact of long-term treatments and medications, and providing personalised, patient-centred care.

Ash is also a Level 3 Accredited Health Coach. This qualification has equipped him with the skills and knowledge to support individuals in making sustainable changes, improving their health and developing positive behaviours. He holds an Independent Prescribing qualification and has developed advanced clinical assessment skills, supporting a comprehensive approach to assessing patients and their individual clinical needs.

Ash’s specialist work in osteoporosis and bone health includes fracture risk assessment, interpretation of DEXA results and identifying the wider factors that influence bone health. These can include previous fractures, medications, medical conditions, menopause and hormonal factors, nutrition, exercise, muscle strength and falls risk.

Ash believes that a DEXA result is only one part of understanding someone’s bone health. His role is to put the result into context, identify potential risks and help patients understand the practical steps they can take to protect their bones and reduce their future fracture risk.

Through his work with DEXA London and Ossavia, he aims to provide patients with clear, evidence-informed and personalised advice, helping them feel more confident about their bone health and understand when further assessment or discussion with their GP or specialist may be appropriate.
